here is a drawing that started on a post-it. I redid it on paper and scanned it. Then I was playing around with it on Illustrator. I am loving the patterns that there are in Illustrator, it just adds so much to the drawing. It's unfinished, but the chances of me finishing it are slim to none. I only get a few minutes every so often to dedicate to art.

Just another sketch I colored in digitally. If I could just get my Epson printer to print a quality print, maybe I could open my shop. I am so frustrated with it. I really just want to take it to a field and beat it with a bat, office space style. Ha, it is me really, I am not savvy enough to know how to sync illustrator and the printer to print quality prints. Do I scan at 300 dpi, or do I adjust the size in the software...who knows. I tried the Etsy forums, but no success. Back to trial and error. If you have any suggestions , I would love to hear them. At this point, I will try anything.

Yes, I am STILL working on that alphabet from last year! Ha, ha, and one day I will complete it. I have a few more letters done. I left off on E, so I have F, G, H, I, J ready. I made changes to the first ones I did. I had a grayish wood textured background, and I threw that out. I like the plain white better right now. Here they are. I am gonna go ahead a post the first ones too, in case you haven't seen them. Oh and I changed the C, it was cake, but now it's cupcake.

Here is a little something I worked on last night. I am trying to get a good collection of new work before I list anything in my shop. I am exploring new color combinations and loving the pinks right now. I have never really used pink/fuchia in my art, but its seems fresh to me. It is just an umbrella and I need to add something to it...but i don't know what. Any suggestions?

Hello Bloggers! Well it has been a while. I am working on opening up shop again. There is so much to be done. First, dust off printers. Second, insert ink. Third, install all needed software on laptop that was lost! O.k. that doesn't count setting up the whole office/art studio space so that its functional. It is overwhelming, but its what I love to do. I have been trying to deny my creativity b/c I want to try and contribute a steady supplemental income for my family, but.....it aint worth doing if it makes me unhappy! Plus, I think Etsy is a great place to provide just what we need. I will be doing what I love and this time I intend to put 110% in it. Meanwhile, I have done a new painting and some drawings. Drawing is so much more convenient for me to accomplish. Sketchpad, pen, and baby in playroom. I will post the painting later, but for now here is a drawing I finished. SOOOO GOOD TO BE BACK!

Hello everybody! Yes, I am still alive. I know its been a while, but you have no idea how my life has changed. God bless the mothers with three children or more because its a hard job. Everyday is a huge challenge for me, especially since I kinda spoiled my little lucy. She loves to be held! My art has been put on hold and I sure do miss it. I am just starting to get the itch to paint something. I set up a little art studio in our garage (new house), no more art room in the house. So maybe one day I can actually get a moment to myself and create. I am focusing on just getting my body back to normal along with everything else. Hope everyone is doing well, I still peek in at some of my favorite blogs and shops from time to time.

This Young House is such a wonderful blog I happened to stumble upon while looking up how to paint a table on the web. I am so glad I did! I not only got some great tips on how to paint my yucky black dining table, but I found so much information on tons more projects. Take their house tour and you will discover how much sweat they put into making their fixer upper home into a lovely, chic to die for home! These are my three favorite rooms they redid, but they also did the bedrooms, bathrooms, front porch, and back patio. We are talking a head to toe makeover. I only dream of being able to do what they have done. We want to own a home so bad, but have no idea where we are moving to right now. So hopefully one day soon we will be able to. You must also check out their handmade wedding they put together that was held in their beautiful backyard. It is amazing how frugal they were, and how beautiful it turned out.

Everyone knows that I have a love for midcentury modern design and mostly anything vintage, but I also love a little bit of shabby chic thrown in the mix sometimes. I love the feminine quality it brings to a room, and the lived in cozy feeling it portrays. I also think I love it because when I was a little girl I wished for a lacy, fluffy, pink, girly room, and I was never able to have that. I found a group of flickr photos from Tammy Manets "Home and Garden Inspiration" set in her photostream and I found some pictures that encompass just how much modern and shabby chic go together. All these rooms are beautiful and even though I love shabby chic, I don't like the "I am at my grandmas house" kinda shabby chic look, but just enough to get my point across. I guess what i mean is " a little shabby chic goes a long way". I still like to keep the whole look clean and simple.

I got around to wanting to browse Etsy today and I came across the designs of Yardwork.The first two designs are handprinted, and the last two designs are digitally printed in N.C. , I just love them! I have always wanted to learn how to do this sometime, I wondered if it was a difficult process. Also, I wondered how many mistakes are made in the process because lord knows how much photo paper I go through trying to make one print right! I finally know all the work that goes into such a process. The artist has so kindly described, in detail, her work process, which is a rarity. After reading it, I have so much more respect for artists that handprint fabric because it sounds like a very long , difficult process that requires lots of supplies to come up with the end result. I will definitely stick to what I know for now, lol! I will stick to buying from talented artist that are experts at what they do. If you would like to read about the process, click here. By the way, I love the way the artist refers to the variations and irregularities of each fabric design as "happy accidents", what a great way to look at it! We did it, I am finally pregnant! I know, I already have two, but I was really wanting to get the third and final baby before I turned 30 this year. I am not sure how far along I am, but I can say, I have been feeling crazy for the last month, so who knows. I have been sooooo tired, that's why my blogging and shop have been lacking lately. I have no energy, barely enough to feed my girls and bathe them, lol! I just can't wait to get the yucky morning sickness over with, it should subside in a month. We want a little boy real bad, but I would love another girl! They are so much fun. Yes drama all the time, but fun. So please excuse my laziness, I am sure to get my energy back soon... hopefully.

Painting Process Reversed

Usually i paint something on a canvas, and then make a print of it. This time, I was asked to make a digital print into a painting as a custom order. It was something I had never tried before, but it was quite enjoyable. Most of the digital artwork I do are simple shapes, and it was challenging to paint these shapes to look clean and crisp on a canvas with paint. When I listed this one as a custom order, someone else surprisingly requested the same painting. The only difference is they wanted three birds, rather than the bird and two trees combo. I am still working on both of these, but I thought I would show you my progress so far. I have been thinking about which other digital print in my shop would make a great painting. I would love to hear your thoughts on which one I should attempt next.

Mexican- Inspired Spring Trend

I am no fashion expert, but I still like to wear a trendy outfit once in a while. It kind of makes me feel like I am more than a mommy who wears mostly pajamas as a uniform! A couple of days a go I found this Mexican-inspired top on Etsy in DollyrockerVingtage shop. I had to have it, so I purchased it immediately. I thought wow, its loose fitting (comfortable!), and I can dress it up with white pants and heels, or dress it down with shorts and flip-flops. Everyone knows that I am moving back to South Texas soon (less than a month), and there is a huge influence by the Mexican culture in that part of Texas. I can't wait to get back to the food, festivals, and just the feeling of being home. I am Latina, so I miss all those things living in North Carolina. I miss the music, the dancing, everything! I also miss the hippie, boho style that I use have in college. The beach is there, so this sort of look is very common. Anyway, I was checking out Forever21's website, and found that the vintage piece I just purchased is a BIG spring trend right now. Check out all the similar styled tops I found on there.

I hadn't been to the craft store in a long time. So the other day, I stopped by to browse around Michaels for a bit. I go to three places: the paint, the wood, and the canvas section. I always go to the paint section and buy the same colors most of the time. I sometimes catch some on sale and get excited, and overdo it. When I browse the wood section, I usually don't buy anything, because I have wood blocks at home, but I bought this time. I went ahead and did a retro sprout looking painting, and it was fun because it was something different to do. Enjoy!

In an earlier post I briefly mentioned that I was going to donate a piece of my artwork to Aveda, so it can be in a silent auction. This is the event, it is a fashion show called Earth Jam '09 and the proceeds go to the Triangle Land Concervancy. It feels good to be a part of a good cause I have to say. Lets pray it gets bid on, lol! My friend Dalia is a student at Aveda, and she is gonna be doing make up and hair backstage. How exciting, I would love to see the action that goes on back there!

I decided to do another Retro Whale Tail painting for the auction. I just tweaked the colors on it and didn't do the aged look the first one had. I felt like giving it more of a bold look.

I really wasn't up for painting yesterday, so I just played around on the computer most of the time. Yes, the apple has been done a gazillion times, I know this, but I couldn't resist!! Don't hold it against me, please. What happened was I did an elephant, yes, very trendy as well, but it looks really cool, I promise!! I can't show it until I come up with the letter C and D though. I don't want to do animals other than the elephant if I can help it. I am in no rush to get through the alphabet, so this will be an ongoing project I can work on when I just don't feel like painting and I have time to myself.

I would love the "Random Differences" on my wall in my studio to reference to when picking out a color palette for a painting. Latest Painting In The Works

Here is my latest painting that I am working on. Nothing is final with it, I am thinking of changing it somehow but I haven't decided. It is a 30"x30" size canvas, so it is kinda big! I really get impatient with the bigger pieces because I am anxious to finish them and you simply can't rush it. I sometimes work on it and put it away for a while if I get frustrated. I come back a week or two later and finally get it done.
This is going off on another subject, but I wonder if other Etsy artist ever have disasters happen to an order your about to send out. For example, I have wanted to throw my printer and paper cutter out of the window MANY times. Sometimes my printer just decides to jam or not perform normally and its always when it is down to the wire! Yesterday I cried because the craziest thing happened, and I am not surprised because everything was going a little too perfect. So I go outside to spray some acrylic sealer on some mini blocks and I come back inside to let them dry for a bit. I go back outside to get them, and a FLY had just ended his life on one of my blocks, AAAhhhhh!! It was sealed onto the block! This meant that I had to take the block resand it and repaint and reseal it!! So that is what I did. Thankfully, it looked as if it was never touched by the unlucky fly. Anyway, I hope that never happens again, but that will teach me to be careful on very windy days.

Come Paint With Me

Sorry its been a while since I posted but I have been very busy with two sick little girls, and I have been working on a new painting. It is bigger than what I usually paint, this canvas size is 15"x30". I am going to continue to work on bigger canvases to change things up a bit. Its more challenging and more time consuming for sure. I wanted to bring you into my art room with me, so that you can see the painting process I go through. I love learning about other artists, and find it very interesting to see their techniques. So here we go!

It was very challenging to come up with something that was going to be larger scale, because I am so use to working with small canvases. Some of the things that I paint would look weird blown up this big. The top left corner is some card stock I was drawing on the night before with sharpie markers, and here is the idea I had in mind. I first did a vanilla color as the base and began to do the pattern of waves. The next thing was the whale tail coming out of the water. Do you like my paper plate palette, lol?

I wanted to put the three colors stacked throughout the whole painting to give it that retro look that I love. So the water was next. The bottom of the tail starts with the yellow, and the end of the water spout ends with the yellow as well. That progression of color looked best. These are just the first coats of paint to test colors I had used in the sketch.

Here it shows the end result of the whole concept.....but I wasn't feeling the blue. I tried brown on top and it went better in my opinion. So I went on to test out the brown on the waves as well to be sure.

There it was, brown and looking good, but I still felt something was off balance! To me, there looked to be too much open space which made it looked unfinished. So I added more big splashes of water below the tail, and I think it worked. All I had to do was put a couple of more coats of paint, and do touch ups on the edge of some messy lines. I am pretty picky about clean lines. It bothers me to see edges that are sloppy (well in my art anyway).

And here it is, the end result. I like it, and it is beginning to grow on me with every hour! I am enjoying it hanging in the living room right now. I don't know if I will sell it and for how much. I may donate it to an auction that my friend asked me to donate a piece of art to. I still have to name it ...sigh...any ideas?

Well we had a great weekend, but I was totally exhausted from it yesterday. We literally laid around until about 7pm. Then we decided that it was time to get moving, ya know, cook dinner and all. We had people over Friday and Saturday night, so we went to bed real late for both. Saturday afternoon was so nice, the weather was perfect: sunny and breezy. I felt like I was in South Texas again laying on the beach. Well I know I never put pictures of myself or my family up, but I am gonna share one today. This is my husband and I, my daughter took the picture. We hardly take pictures together because there is never anyone around to snap them at the right time. But since my Milla is older, she can start doing it. It is the weekend, so my husband usually walks around the house the whole time with his guitar...practicing. This is about the most dressed up I have been in a long time, I am usally in jeans a t-shirt anda hoodie jacket. Oh and the other picture is of the tree in our front yard, I love this tree and it is starting to bloom fast. Enjoy!

I am always curious how other artist package and ship their paintings, so I thought I would show how I do it. This past week I sold a my "Retro Whale Tail" painting, and it was exciting but sad. It was one of my all time favorites. Plus, it was hanging in my living room for a while, so I got used to it. I went to UPS to find a suitable box along with packing peanuts. I always wrap my paintings with wrapping paper, or sometimes tissue paper if they are small. I then include a thank you card that has a little message and my business card. Here is what this one looked like.

I know I am just a stay at home mom, but I really look forward to Fridays! My husband is around more, and he loves to cook on the weekends. It gives us a chance to have a drink and talk while we cook together. Even though we have no family around us, we still have a good time together. Just us and our girls. We will be moving back to Texas in the summer where our family is and I can't imagine how much more fun it will be with our parents and siblings around hanging out on the weekends. Ooh and this weekend we have to plan what we are gonna do for my daughters birthday on monday, she is turning four. I can't believe it! We have been deciding whether we should try for a boy right now. I really don't want to be pregnant after thirty, so I have to hurry. I want them to be close together so they can enjoy each other. I don't even remember what it is like to not have to be changing diapers,lol! Anyway I wish everyone a happy friday and a wonderful weekend to follow! Just wanted to start off my come back with some new work. I am working on listing the prints in my shop first. The paintings are still in the process of getting photographed and named. Here are a couple of new "retro wallpaper" prints. I am gonna try and put them in the shop soon, but I have orders to get out in the next few days. Well it has been a crazy 2 months for me, my husband deployed and my computer crashed all around the same time! He actually got to come back home early and he surprised me by hiding in my parked car , and he jumped out when I got home with the girls! It was so awesome, a thousand pounds was lifted off my shoulders that moment I saw him. I will be picking up my computer today and I hope it works this time. I am resisting buying a new one, I am totally attached to the one I have. I have so many new paintings I am dying to show and list in my shop! I miss everyone so much!! I should be back on track in about a week if all goes well with the computer situation. I need to also catch up on reading all my favorite blogs. Thanks everyone for sticking around, I appreciate it.

Pay Attention in College!

Because I didn't! I wish I cared in all my computer related classes when I was in college, but I didn't. I just did enough to get by and retained nothing. Now look at me, at the mercy of a computer geek that never shows up. So I paid to have this guy come and fix my computer and he did get it up and running but left a lot of stuff out of whack. My C drive totally maxed and all my software on it can't be opened. I can't download pics, look at videos, do digital art, but at least I can still pay bills and browse the internet. After two no shows to see what he did, I finally talked to someone that gave me some answers. Long story short, I was screwed around, they are sorry and someone ELSE is coming tomorrow to totally redo my computer! I only have to pay a difference of $40 dollars to upgrade to a four hour block so everything can be done right. Please cross your fingers that this geek is gonna show and fix my baby so I can get back to business as usual. By the way the company name is GEEKS ON SITE that's right, I said it!

Hi everyone, hope all is well. My computer is still sick and I can do a very limited amount of things on it like check my email or surf the web. I can't download anything and all my software is gone. I am working on getting all of my things reinstalled but it is hard when I am not too savvy with computer stuff to begin with. I miss my shop and blogging so much and hope this nightmare is over

The other night I was checking out all the blogs I follow to catch up on some reading and DeluxaNYC is first on my list so I clicked and there I was! She put a little something about me on her lovely blog. I was so excited and I couldn't believe my eyes when I was reading it! Somebody pinch me! She said the nicest most flattering things about my work that she totally made my weekend for sure. I found her blog while I was lost in blog land, she was on someone else's blog list and I checked it out. Turns out she owns a sweet little vintage shop in Brooklyn, NY that I wish I could go visit! She loves everything vintage as do I,so her blog was interesting. My favorite thing that I found on her blog is Scott Hansen! He is an awesome and talented artist. I was in awe of his work, I literally went through his entire website portfolio and was just in another world. He also is involved with music he calls Tycho and while your looking at the site, its playing the whole time. I usually mute all music and sound on sites b/c I don't like to be startled and have my girls wake up, but I really enjoyed the music. It reminded me of my "college days" if you know what I mean. If you check it out, you won't regret it, there is a ton of inspiration on his site.

Linda Solovic

Linda is a very talented artist on Etsy who has been in my favorites for a while. We just recently did a trade and it turned out great. I have done some trades in the past and thank goodness they have all been great. One could easily run into trouble doing a trade if dealing with someone who is not honest. She wanted a mohawk bird print and I liked her bird prints as well. We ended up agreeing to trade a set. She picked out her two favorites and I picked out my favorites from her shop. I gave them to my daughters to put up in their room and they loved them! My oldest who is three especially loved them. I received mine quick (thanks Linda!) and was off to send mine when my daughter asked, "which pictures are you taking to the post office?" I told her I am taking the ones I had printed on my printer and she said, "o.k. don't take the ones in my room because I need them!" How cute is she? These two were the ones that I had to have from her lovely shop. Thank You Linda!

Explosion of Creativity

So early last week, I had not one ounce of creativity in me! I was in a super slump. But, I finally got on the ball this past weekend and I haven't stopped. I always create in bulk for some reason. I have to do a series or a big batch of new projects. I will keep going as long as I can, and keep putting it up here for feedback. I am loving my break from my shop, no checking the shop every hour! I worked on these the past couple of nights when my girls have gone to bed and I can't sleep because I HAD to watch "forensic files" on TruTV. I usually start to think I am next after I have watched three episodes in a row starting at 11 p.m.,lol! So there I was on the couch trying to stay awake and checking the doors and windows like every 15 minutes to convince myself it is safe to go to bed. I gotta stop doing that! But here is what the end result was.

New Paintings

Well here they are, both untitled still. I have no idea what to name them, but I was thinking something along the lines of spring since it is around the corner. They are both on 9x12 stretched canvases that have a side width of 1.5 inches. I have been saving these canvases forever! They cost more than the canvases that are not so wide on the sides, so I wanted to make sure I didn't mess them up. There is such a thing as cursed canvases if you ask me. I have worked on canvases that no matter what I paint on them, I never like them. So it just becomes a canvas with a thousand layers of paint because it's cursed and it usually goes in the trash or to my daughter to paint on. I wonder if other artists know what I am talking about, or am I just weird? I have about six things I need to list in my shop, but since I am on vacation from Etsy, I am going to just stock up and list them all at once. I have been procrastinating taking pictures of them all!

I am so happy that I got to paint a little this weekend! I have 2 new paintings done so far and I am working on two more. This picture here is a distortion of one of them. I took pics of it, cropped a section of the painting and distorted it and it looks like really cool wallpaper or wrapping paper. I may print a big 11x14 of this one and frame it. I love these colors and it could liven up one of my rooms! I have yet to attempt to print anything that size on my Epson, so it could be good practice. I will post more of my new work this week, so stay tuned.

But I sneaked out the back door to go take a peek at what was at...E-Bay! (gasp!) I feel like I shouldn't lurk around on "the other" site because everyone on Etsy despises it, unless they sell there too. I can't help but wonder how my art would do on the site! I have even looked up how to sell on there, but it is pretty confusing to me, not to mention costly. But would if I could be way more successful there? Sandra Bonava is a painter, dancer, and designer of fabric. I just love the color that bursts throughout her fabric. If I ever learn to use my 5yr old brand new sewing machine, I would love to create something out of fabric. I am surprised I don't hoard it already! My favorite of her fabric lines is Citronella. This woman has some of the swatches of this fabric line all along her dress. What a nice print this Citronella Lady would make! She has many more fabric lines to drool over, so go check out her site for some eye candy. Her site is full of beautiful photos that clearly show her eye for color and design.

Hey everyone, I just want to wish you a Happy New Year, and I hope everyone is safe! Be careful for drunk drivers, they are the reason I have opted to stay home and celebrate every year. I have been paranoid about that ever since I became a mommy! I have been pretty bored b/c I have had a lot of extra time on my hands, but my creative juices aren't flowing. It happens to me too often! So I sit at my table with paintbrush in hand and have no idea what to paint. I hope it doesn't last too much longer. I think I am just bored with my style and shop right now and I need to do something new and different. Maybe I will search for a small piece of furniture or something old to refurbish. I should take out my Wacom PC Tablet and see what I can do with that. It is new, I have only played with it a hand full of times. So hopefully a big wave of creativity will swoosh my way and I can create new work that I am excited about! I will talk to you next year!!

Family Day

I had to take a family day yesterday. A break from painting, blogging, promoting, listing, and etsy. My husband had an unexpected day off, so we went to lunch to celebrate our FIVE year wedding anniversary! Technically, we never had a wedding. I moved to Hawaii to visit him for Christmas, and he said "You don't have to go back home." So we went and got married by a judge, and we have been together ever since. Oh...and we were never boyfriend and girlfriend before that. He was on leave in my hometown and one month later, that happened. We also took the girls to Chuck E Cheese, since kids would still be in school and it wouldn't be crazy busy. It was a fun day! So last night, when we were relaxing on the couch with our laptops ( typical night in our house) I was looking at old paintings to relist in my shop as prints. I want to stock my shop with at least one hundred items. It seems the more you have, the better you sell and it just looks more professional. I am bringing back a bunch of my favorite oldies but goodies. I will change some a bit digitally and some I will just leave alone. This particular painting is called Hippy Chic II, and it is one of my early favorites. It was actually sold locally in a coffee shop, so it was not in my shop too long. I changed the colors a bit. I wanted to give it a softer look I guess. She is for sure on the comeback list.

Oye Modern sells contemporary jewelry by independent designers. I found the link lurking around in the Etsy forums. I am not a jewelry kind of girl, but it is still art to me. I can appreciate beautiful jewelry and not have to wear it. I like my simple white gold wedding band, and I must always have silver hoop earrings in reach. This weekend was a busy one! I painted a lot, and I almost feel bad b/c I was in the art/craft room for two days straight. I had some mini art blocks to sand and get started on for an order, and I also made over a painting that was really an eye sore to me in my shop. First of all when I painted it, I was not sure about the green background at all, but went ahead and listed it in the shop to see what would happen. Well, it wasn't a total flop, it got views, but it just doesn't go and it has been bothering me for a while. I decided to change the colors not the design. Why let a whole canvas go to waste. I like the blue background better, and I thought black outlining would make it pop a bit more. I think I could still offer the print of the old version, but I am on the fence about it right now.

On to the next one! I was working on my mini art blocks and I got an idea. Would if I didn't paint the sides of the block. I was about to paint the sides and thought it kind of looked better showing the natural wood. It appealed to me more. What do you think. Does it looked just "unfinished" or does it bring a more nature like feel to the piece? I am working on a set to possibly list in order to test the waters.

Happy Friday everyone!! So yesterday I saw this awesome clock on the front page of Etsy and clicked on it to find my new favorite shop Chroma Lab! I love every piece in the shop. The design on the furniture is just awesome. This is EXACTLY what I was talking about a couple of days ago. This is what I want to do when I grow up. I just love to Pounce on Etsy, but I Pounce in the "undiscovered" shops because I remember what it was like waiting for my first sale. I try to give a little recognition to artists and crafters who have unique items, great pictures, or just plain undiscovered Etsy talent! Today as I was pouncing one shop caught my eye. The name of the shop is Behjat and the artist lives in Littleton, Colorado. Her art is beautiful and very detailed which is what I love about it. Well everyone knows I love birds, I tend to use them in my art as well. Her birds, trees, and birdcages are surrounded with intricate swirls, fabric, and little flowers. I absolutely love them! She uses paper and wraps her canvases with fabric which makes her shop unique and lovely. You can tell that she puts love in each piece because it does take time and patience to bring together all the small details she includes. Here are some of my favorites.

One day in the future when my kids are grown up a bit and I own a home with a garage, I would really like to get into refurbishing old furniture, lamps, and anything and everything I can get my hands on. I would love to have a little shop in town somewhere in whatever town I end up in and sell my art and my findings that I have redone. A shop, a studio, whatever it may be, as long as I can create everyday and maybe make a living at this. I don't know how long my husband will support my low paying expensive art business, lol! I wish I could roam town and find odds and ends and just make the world a prettier place with art everywhere. I was browsing a website called Modern Finds, and found a few things that I would love to get my paintbrush on. Don't get me wrong, I love the vintage look and feel of them all, but they inspire me is what I am getting at. My head starts racing about the designs I can put on these objects and it just excites me. I do have a future project in store for me and that is my rod iron patio furniture. As soon as the weather permits, I will be on that. I also have to find a fabric that I like to recover the seat cushions.
